These scripts can adapt the packages to many kinds of UNIX-like systems without manual user intervention. Autoconf creates a configuration script for a package from a template file that lists the operating system features that the package can use, in the form of M4 macro calls. Producing configuration scripts using Autoconf requires GNU M4 and Perl. You should install GNU M4 (version 1.4.6 or later is required; 1.4.14 or later is recommended) and Perl (5.006 or later) before configuring Autoconf, so that Autoconf's configure script can find them. The configuration scripts produced by Autoconf are self-contained, so their users do not need to have Autoconf (or GNU M4, Perl, etc.). You can get GNU M4 here: https://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/m4/ The file INSTALL should be distributed with packages that use Autoconf-generated configure scripts and Makefiles that conform to the GNU coding standards. The package's README can just give an overview of the package, where to report bugs, and a pointer to INSTALL for instructions on compilation and installation. This removes the need to maintain many similar sets of installation instructions. Be sure to read BUGS and INSTALL. Mail suggestions to autoconf@gnu.org, report bugs to bug-autoconf@gnu.org, and submit patches to autoconf-patches@gnu.org. All changes can be tracked at the read-only autoconf-commit@gnu.org. Always include the Autoconf version number, which you can get by running `autoconf --version'. Archives of bug-autoconf@gnu.org can be found in <https://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/bug-autoconf/>, and similarly for the other mailing lists. Licensing Autoconf is released under the General Public License version 3 (GPLv3+). Additionally, Autoconf includes a licensing exception in some of its source files; see the respective copyright notices for how your project is impacted by including scripts generated by Autoconf, and the COPYING.EXCEPTION file for the exception in terms of the Additional Permissions as described in section 7 of GPLv3. Under Section 7 of GPL version 3, you are granted additional permissions described in the Autoconf Configure Script Exception, version 3.0, as published by the Free Software Foundation. . You should have received a copy of the GNU General Public License and a copy of the Autoconf Configure Script Exception along with this program; see the files COPYINGv3 and COPYING.EXCEPTION respectively. If not, see <http://www.gnu.org/licenses/>. . The GNU General Public License version 3 may be found on Debian systems in /usr/share/common-licenses/GPL-3. . The Autoconf Configure Script Exception version 3 is below: . AUTOCONF CONFIGURE SCRIPT EXCEPTION Version 3.0, 18 August 2009 . Copyright (C) 2009 Free Software Foundation, Inc. <http://fsf.org/> Everyone is permitted to copy and distribute verbatim copies of this license document, but changing it is not allowed. . This Exception is an additional permission under section 7 of the GNU General Public License, version 3 ("GPLv3"). It applies to a given file that bears a notice placed by the copyright holder of the file stating that the file is governed by GPLv3 along with this Exception. . The purpose of this Exception is to allow distribution of Autoconf's typical output under terms of the recipient's choice (including proprietary). . 0. Definitions . "Covered Code" is the source or object code of a version of Autoconf that is a covered work under this License. . "Normally Copied Code" for a version of Autoconf means all parts of its Covered Code which that version can copy from its code (i.e., not from its input file) into its minimally verbose, non-debugging and non-tracing output. . "Ineligible Code" is Covered Code that is not Normally Copied Code. . 1. Grant of Additional Permission. . You have permission to propagate output of Autoconf, even if such propagation would otherwise violate the terms of GPLv3. However, if by modifying Autoconf you cause any Ineligible Code of the version you received to become Normally Copied Code of your modified version, then you void this Exception for the resulting covered work. If you convey that resulting covered work, you must remove this Exception in accordance with the second paragraph of Section 7 of GPLv3. . 2. No Weakening of Autoconf Copyleft. . The availability of this Exception does not imply any general presumption that third-party software is unaffected by the copyleft requirements of the license of Autoconf. README.Debian 0000644 00000002574 15027513675 0006630 0 ustar 00 README for Debian Autoconf package ---------------------------------- If you encounter unexpected problems, please read NEWS and especially NEWS.Debian, which describe some common problems in upgrades from 2.59 to the current version. If you're looking for config.guess and config.sub to include along with your Autoconfiscated program, check out the autotools-dev package. These files are updated often enough that it is difficult to keep them up-to-date in two different packages. By default, Autoconf will choose installation directories that match the GNU standards. Debian follows the alternative Filesystem Hierarchy Standard (FHS), which is slightly different. To configure an Autoconfiscated program for the FHS, invoke `configure' something like this: ./configure --prefix=/usr --sysconfdir=/etc --libexecdir=/usr/lib If you want compatibility with `configure' scripts generated by Autoconf 2.59 or older, you will need an additional option: --mandir=/usr/share/man If you are using Autoconf with Debian packages, you should also install the autotools-dev package and read the documentation that it includes, particularly: /usr/share/doc/autotools-dev/README.Debian.gz This document contains valuable information for how to handle Autoconf, Automake, Libtool, and related programs in Debian packages. -- Ben Pfaff <pfaffben@debian.org>, Sat, 28 Apr 2012 18:24:12 -0700 changelog.Debian.gz 0000644 00000003472 15027513675 0010237 0 ustar 00 WvF}WQb .0ri-'2yi M# i4oyˏͭH<Qku Z3]MǡjHj\VR-FR[ZdJǞѩvDC[>'S]P4i;(B d0H1=`kKl%PKJYYQ|$.x0}IcFiګVPѱL;k8 dks!K}'6[ȆD]J+BDY;rr9S̽T.ĝƛ3Re==^)!ޜ_|sJY{eydwrfԈLzT{3TR}Z|%x&t(3NG@($]E/G''vSU69kTHش&AF0Cȸ6.n.Ϯpzu.si9)BȦuA[9:?;`ܫid\zV62BBUY]=%~]Mv״\B?z?2;*v`G ̽L <|qS5FNCKˍ;]YgWEaPT9g"ȀߦN]?5_tamɳ{:R䗥(X@i[XMM.A:coZRfWЙk$6HFR]_s#p@rHw{#k6SțP.[.P( ( /T(d3S#)VݿeBDd0aU9vsBshHhzxzdKF,6tۥJr}e(JRwKT'˜w5{{s8G~vpӼХӦ{&7Vtu;Ԯ)^;>8p`VV7ټrwzuk&}CI@v^;y/̵ e!7]=ԌJQqZGM=IpMbu#8LUcp8BR )0H.NM]EX.: +:ٌkJe<\M1IQ2|&B?VU|<G\A[GP?}`<y=#~ć1x\,9ô/Դͳ fѺ H: hoy!r5Ѱ7Kbe<^ћc &
