PK Zζ6c c READMEnu [ OpenDBX Readme: 1. Building the package 2. Installing the package 3. Using the OpenDBX library 4. Create DEB and RPM packages 1. Building the package: Do a ./configure --with-backends="<backends>" in the directory of the extracted package. Replace '<backends>' by your favorite backend, e.g. pgsql for PostgreSQL or mysql for MySQL. The command ./configure --with-backends="mysql pgsql" will build both - provided you have the client libraries installed. The ./configure script tests your system if everything is available needed by the OpenDBX library and the choosen backends. If something is not found because it's not installed in the usual location, prepend CPPFLAGS="-I<include path>" where path is pointing to the include files and LDFLAGS="-L<lib path>" where path is pointing to the libraries, e.g. CPPFLAGS="-I/opt/mysql" LDFLAGS="-L/opt/mysql" ./configure --with-backends="mysql" to configure OpenDBX and the MySQL backend with the include and lib in /opt/mysql. "make" will build both libraries according to these settings. 2. Install the package The simplest way is to execute "make install" (as root) to copy the files to the default location. If you haven't changed this (./configure --help explains how to do this), they will be copied to /usr/local/include and /usr/local/lib. 3. Using the OpenDBX library If you've written a program interfacing the OpenDBX library, simply add -lopendbx as gcc parameter while linking your program. If the library isn't installed in one of the directories the library loader is searching for, you can either add the path to the LD_LIBRARY_PATH before execution of your programm or add add it to your /etc/ld.so.conf file and run ldconfig afterwards. 4. Create DEB and RPM packages The OpenDBX tarball is prepared to build distribution specific packages in DEB and RPM format. The Debian package is build by unpacking the tar file and invoking the following command in the OpenDBX directory on the command line: fakeroot debian/rules binary It will build the OpenDBX library and the mysql, pgsql, sqlite, sqlite3, firebird, mssql and sybase backends (the last two by using the FreeTDS library). Creating RPM packages is as easy as building the Debian package. Simply execute rpmbuild -ta opendbx-x.x.x.tar.gz with the correct name of the package file. This will build the OpenDBX library and the mysql, pgsql and sqlite3 backends by default. You can change the backends which will be build by supplying values to the --with=... and --without=... command line options available for the rpmbuild command, e.g. rpmbuild -ta --with=mssql --without=mysql --without=pgsql opendbx-x.x.x.tar.gz PK ZY~ copyrightnu [ This package was debianized by Norbert Sendetzky <norbert@linuxnetworks.de> on Sat, 6 Aug 2005 12:55:17 +0200.
